Take exit 138 from I-40, (CATAWBA exit), go to the end of the road, turn left onto Rt. 70, then right on Rt. 10. Go about 1 1/2 mile to the mill.  Or north from Charlotte, three miles past the intersection of Hwy 16 & Hwy 150. Take a right turn onto Buffalo Shoals Rd.  Follow brown historic site signs from this point to the mill.

   

Comments:

  The mill has been restored by the Catawba County Historical Assn.  Originally built in 1873, it was enlarged in 1913.  The 28 ft. overshot wheel creates 90 hp. Admission charge.  Very attractive. This was the host mill for SPOOM's 1990 and 1999 annual conference.  Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 1979.  The adjacent Country Store sells merchandise and mill products.

  We are open March – December (Closed starting week of Christmas through first Thursday in March)
         Thursday – Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
         Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
