Yates Mill is the last remaining gristmill of perhaps 70 that once operated in Wake the County area.  It is the only mill in North Carolina that exhibits Oliver Evans technology for fully automated wheat milling.  It serves as an outstanding example and record of the evolution of early industry in the lower Piedmont region of North Carolina.
