Comments:

An operating museum mill using an electric motor which replaced the turbine.  The first mill on this site was built c. 1734.  This mill was destroyed and rebuilt in 1822.  It was destroyed by fire in 1872 and was rebuilt with the same plan using 2 run of millstones, but powered by a Risdon turbine.  The Mill is currently powered by Electric/Hydraulics.  An attrition mill, 3rd set of stones and cob crusher were added after the turn of the century.  The mill closed in 1917.  The restoration incorporates the changes in the machinery from 1873 to 1910.  The mill and historic district were placed on the New Jersey and National Register of Historic Places in 1976.  The late Charles Howell described the mill as "probably one of the best surviving examples of a complete millstone flour mill in the eastern United States and possibly in the whole country".
