Near CHESTER SPRINGS, on PA on Conestoga Road (Rt. 401), 1/2 mile west of Rt. 113.

   

Comments:

  Built in the late 18th century (c. 1747) and ceased operating c.1960.  There are 3 run of buhrstones powered by a Fitz overshot waterwheel.  Flour, feed and grist were ground.  This is a typical Oliver Evans mill.  Most machinery remains.  It was known as Lightfoot Mill in 1747, Benson-Reading Mill in 1812, Shannaman Mill in 1820, Oberholtzer's Mill in 1886 and Collins Mill from 1919 on.  Stephen Kindig is quoted as saying he has never found an example to equal this mill.

On April 12, 2005 Anselma Mill was designated a National Historic Landmark.

The Mill at Anselma (c. 1747) was recognized as a National Historic Landmark for representing an extremely rare archetypal example of a small eighteenth century custom mill with its surviving, completely intact, power transmission system

Operation Schedule:
  Open during regular hours May through November.
Corn grinding second Saturday of each month.
The Grounds are open year round 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
